Lessons From My Daughter

My daughter is now two years old and brings laughter, love, happiness and new challenges to my life everyday so I have updated this post

The Global Art Experiment

Or things I’ve learned since becoming a dad:

  1. Leave behind the worries, stress and emotions from your day and treat her with care and respect.
  2. Listen carefully to what she says, not everything is important but one day it will be. Make your child feel like she has a voice that matters in the world.
  3. Do not doubt the impact that raising a family will have on the world. Social interactions will have knock on effects that can bring profound change.
  4. Invest your time learning, exploring and improving yourself rather than worrying about what other people think and seeking their approval.
  5. Wake up happy, let little things make you happy and go out with a smile on your face
  6. Focus on the present and pay attention to all the little things surrounding you
  7. Show unconditional love and affection

  7. Show unconditional love and affection
  8. You can depend on the people who love you, one day they will depend on you
  9. Demand what you want and say no like you mean it
  10. Get organized and prepare well
  11. Freedom needs limits, limits need discipline, discipline needs methods, methods need principles.
  12. Laughter is the music of your soul
  13. Every day is a chance to make a new friend even if that friendship only lasts a bus ride
  14. Life is a journey, nobody’s perfect, we make mistakes but it’s how we learn, change and adapt that’s important
  15. Approach life with passion, enthusiasm, determination and an unbreakable belief in yourself

Flipboard

“I’d just say to aspiring journalists or writers—who I meet a lot of—do it now. Don’t wait for permission to make something that’s interesting or amusing to you. Just do it now. Don’t wait. Find a story idea, start making it, give yourself a deadline, show it to people who’ll give you notes to make it better. Don’t wait till you’re older, or in some better job than you have now. Don’t wait for anything. Don’t wait till some magical story idea drops into your lap. That’s not where ideas come from. Go looking for an idea and it’ll show up. Begin now. Be a fucking soldier about it and be tough.”

– Ira Glass

Finding Happiness

I hope these words of advice will help my daughter to live a happy life

  1. Family is the most important thing in life. Only a family’s love is unconditional.
  2. Life is circular. The more you can give the more you will receive. Of course at first you have to have something valuable to offer. Judge your life by what you can give not what you can accumulate.
  3. Take time to develop your own skills, long term and short term goals. Respect your own and other people’s needs.
  4. Know the right time to give, receive, wait, take action, sharpen your skills or help others.
  5. Take responsibility for your own actions, do your best everyday, and make sure you are moving in the right direction to achieve your goals. What you do defines who you are and everyday is a chance to change.
  6. You are unique. You have your own strengths, weaknesses and ambitions. Always be aware of your reasons and intentions and never lie to yourself.  Be respectful and keep a positive attitude, strong morals and a sense of integrity.
  7. Don’t waste your time comparing yourself to others. You don’t know where they are coming from or where they are going.
  8. Trust yourself and your intuition. Don’t be afraid to aim high. The fear of failing is one of the biggest obstacles that you will have to overcome. Respect the power of commitment, dedication and belief.
  9. Some people will help you in life and others will hinder you. Some friendships will last many years others just a day. If it is time to say goodbye hold on to the memories or a valuable lesson.
  10. Focus on finding your own happiness, confidence and passion in life. Appreciate the small things in life and try to take something positive from everyday.
  11. When you find the right person to love embrace that love with everything you have. Experience the joy of loving and being loved. Share each others openness, honesty, happiness, dreams and forgiveness. Motivate, inspire and teach each other. Don’t be afraid to show your vulnerabilities.
